Only a few kilometres, northeast from Konopiště, one of the most beautiful castles in Bohemia can be found – Český Šternberk castle. The majestic caslte will carry you immediately to the past and will make your memories about fairytale princesses and brave knights true. Not every castle seems to be so majestic and big, as Český Šternberk does. And when you reach the top of the hill by the stony stairs, when you look down to the small village, when you see the Sázava river which flows round the village as a silver ribbon and when you see the remnants of the castle´s park you will surely say, that this is one of the most beautiful views you have ever seen. And add to this view richly decorated interiors with many valuable exhibits, interesting things and other attractions – all of this will be experienced on the castle sightseeing. If you will be lucky enough you will meet the owners of the castle, who still live there.


If you are one of the Josef Lada pictures´ admirers, or if the legendary view of the cemetery church on the hill or the atmosphere of the quarrel in the „U Sejku“ inn reminds you of the old times, you really have to visit the nearby Hrusice town. You will find there the famous church, models of Hrusice houses exhibited in the tonwhall and mainly, you can visit the Josef Lada Memorial, with the exhibition. The ideal form of the family trip there is to use the several educational tracks, that are built near Hrusice. They are not very difficult to pass, so you may follow the steps of the cat Mikeš, for example.


For the first sight on the Vrchotovy Janovice palace you will think, that you stand under the beautiful southbohemian palace Červená Lhota. Similarly, as it is in Červená Lhota, the red and decorated walls of this palace reflect on the water surface and all this beauty is composed to the greenish scenery of the surrounding park. However, the different thing there is that in comparison to Červená Lhota palace there are no standard sightseeings, but there is one special exposition dedicated to the Czech society in the 19th century. This exposition shows the mastery of many famous personalities (e.g. M. Švabinský, V. Stretti, K. Kraus and others) who visited the castle very often. In the basement an exposition dedicated to the bell production in Bohemia can be found. Vrchotovy Janovice are very beautiful and pleasant place, it is worth your visit, even though you are only passing through the town.


As if being in one of the old french films that are set to the times of Ludwig XIV… that is the atmosphere of picturesque palace Jemniště, that can be easily found only few kilometres away from Konopiště. The former fort from the 14th century was reconstructed in the 16th and 17th centuries to the todays looks – to the looks of the romantic palace, in front of which nice and elegant grass and flowerbeds are planted. The atmosphere is enriched by the fountain. Except the palace sightseeing, during which you will see the historic furniture, several collections, a gallery, luxurious dancing floor and other interesting items; you may have a walk throught the palace park, where you can meet not only some parrots, but also a kangaroo.
